Eating or throwing? A billion go Hungry!!

With a wish to want more and grow exponentially, there are countless eateries opening across the length and breadth of the city, state, and geographies. To serve their patrons best quality food and faster delivery, restaurants pile up inventories, the most challenging place where the food in bulk is prepared is that for parties, weddings and events. To keep up the quality intact and follow food security norms, the unused food is thrown and wasted a lot, food which can feed a billion, who sleep hungry every day or millions die of malnutrition.

System Research Society in continuation of National Campaign on Reducing Food Wastage: Don’t You Waste Food Campaign’s (DYWF) Ahmedabad Conclave conducted an awareness walk against food wastage on August 29, 2018.

There was an active participation witnessed by school students, educators, professors, NCC Cadets, people from the Food Association Group (FEA) and youth ambassadors of DYWF campaign. The participating institutions were Shreyas Foundation, National Cadet Corps, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Shree Narayan College of Commerce. Other than those, citizens of Ahmedabad joined the march, which commenced from the Sabarmati River Front Park.

The message put up was, “life runs of food and we shall not waste it”.

“Shreyas Foundation will definitely carry this forward and will participate in future workshops organized as a part of DYWF campaign.” We believe that our awareness seminars are a tool that will yield tangible results in the form of food waste reduction. Walk makes the impact of the same more prominent. This walk was a mark that the DYWF brand ambassadors have come together to be a part of the fight against global food waste. On the other side, various key personnel from F & B industry exchanged their views at Lemon Tree hotel.

DYWF is an awareness programme, aimed at reducing food wastage across levels.

Studies have shown that 4.5 trillion hectares of land grows world's food. Food grown on 1.4 trillion hectares of land is wasted which is larger than Europe. To grow this 250 trillion litres of water is used. It is the annual water use of Europe x 4 times.

One-third of food produced is lost or wasted globally. This also means that huge amounts of the resources used in food production are used in vain.

Let us all unite together, take a pledge and not be driven by fads.

Respect food and the chain of resources... let it not go in trash!!

The Kastoori of Agriculture and it's women

Saturday 22nd June 2019: Agriculture, call it a tradition, an occupation or being part of the nature and our existence with it!! Just like Kastoori or the musk is within the deer, but it keeps hunting outside, similar is with our Agriculture sector. It had always been our primary resource, but we complicated the same hunting outside, making farmers dependant on complex and manipulative processes. We all know that various climatic and financial factors with overburdened chemical dependency has made this sector gloomy, turning down into a compounded cyclical process which has now started affecting the urban too; giving the realisation to human race now to bridge the gap between the two. Farmer suicides and pesticides in food chain with increase in cancer cases is just the tip of the iceberg.
