From the Queen's heart and the bullet darts

Getting off on a hot Sunday in the month of June when the temperatures soar to 45 degree celcius, enthusiastic bloggers and some entrepreneurs under guidance of Anil Mulchandani set off on two extremely off beat experiences. One to a shooting range and the other to a Maratha Royal food sojourn at Madhav Bagh.

1. Misirote farm is run by Sardar Ishwar Singh and Sardarni Gyaneshwari, who also manage Savli Taluka Rifle Association. The farm set amidst a rural backdrop is an eco friendly get away which also imparts residency certificate courses in Rifle shooting. They have high end computer integrated, voice simulated trap shooting range. S. Ishwar Singh has been instrumental in promoting trap shooting in India as a sport.
Misirote is a two hour drive from Ahmedabad, it is located in Parthampura on banks of Mahi river. The place is a good option for day picnics or weekend stays.

2. Madhav Bagh: the Indo British Royal Mansion now has four rooms ready for tourists to experience peace and regal feel. All four palatial rooms are designed in different themes; if not this.. you can experience the cuisine from the Queen's kitchen which cooked under an elaborate process oriented way. Maharani Indrani Gaekwad, who hails from Kolhapur has unique recipes which have trickled down since generations.

A four course Royal meal can be prepared by pre- booking.

What we had: Aam Panna, Soup with Sunti ( a delicacy made of ground meat rolled into balls along with spices), Parsandi, Bharalai Kombadi (stuffed chicken), Chicken Rajvilasi Rasa, Bharlali Wangi (stuffed brinjals in black masala), Dahi Bhindi, Masoor and Kaju Rasa, Narali Bhat, and Shahi tukda.

Along with a culinary sojourn you can meet Maharaja Shivraj Singh to share more stories of the Royal Gharana...

PS: Misriote Farm and Madhav Bagh are Gold Standard home stays certified by Gujarat Government.

Upcycle Concrete

Upcycle is an interesting "GREEN" practice nowadays followed by many!! For goods and commodities its good, but in the era of shifting sands, preferences, fast evolutionary changes, the need and demand for more excitement the malls, unlike old markets, have a very short life span. A decade is quite long, then they slowly organically fade out. Ahmedabad, unlike the metros is quick silver. The life span of malls is shorter than those in metros.. few which have swept off infront of our eyes in two decades are; Gulmohar, Fun Republic, Gallops etc. Gallops though with best brands, infrastructure couldn't survive the cost concious market. Two days ago I happened to step into Iscon mega Mall, Mega like the word suggests, its gigantic. Reliance hyper market was inaugurated on 15th August 2006 by Sh Mukesh Ambani, it was his big bang entry into retail segment. In this mega structure, today hardly 10% area is functional, rest is all unused.  If Westside and Reliance are functional...

Parallel Worlds - Perspectives from Gwalior

India is a land of Gold mine for Archeologists and architects.. any region we travel, there are ballads and narratives found in every corner of the country. After various emperors who travelled and did their territory demarcation.. today the politically divided States as per the Sovereign Social Republic clearly reflect the culture and Unity in Diversity in various aspects, be it culture, space, region, food or architecture. Madhya Pradesh, today being the centre of the country is a classic example where you can find historical structures, monuments and living spaces from across eras. Mughal, Marathas, Rajputs, Sikhs, Britishers etc.  Apart from this, there is a lot of correlation found in the architecture of structures found in other states which have been built in other eras. Twin temples with elephant carvings as base Sas Bahu Temple Gwalior (vishnu temple) Sun Temple Modhera in Gujarat and Sas Bahu (as ...
