Cake Mixing... Carols arrive!!

Ahmedabad, 28th November 2018: Cake mixing ceremony, two months prior to Christmas the raisins, nuts and fruits are soaked in juices, honey and spices. This marks the beginning of the festive season full of fun and frolic...

Being a region of diversity, we as Indians get to witness this part of cultural aspect too. In Ahmedabad, apart from Santa being spotted at various hubs in the city, now since past few years Cake Mixing too has become a ritual. Many hotels follow the traditional method of soaking nuts and juices to prepare the authentic plum cake, where they call upon their guests and the ritual is a proper celebration.

This season I have witnessed Cake Mixing ceremony at three places;  Lemon Tree Premier, Hyatt Regency and Fortune Landmark by ITC... all at various intervals! Traditionally the dry fruits are soaked in caramel fluid and orange juice two months prior (wine or rum are omitted as Gujarat is a dry state), and when the batter is made, another set of soaked dry fruits which had been soaked above 6 months are used.

Cake Mixing at Lemon Tree
Lemon Tree Premier had organised cake mixing ceremony along with the launch of their new menu at their Riverfront Grill.  26th October 2018,  Saturday night, a huge bunch of chefs along with guests wore the chef caps and gloves... there all the juices went into the grand vessel which was loaded with all goodies. It was a post-dinner celebration.
Hyatt Regency at the Pool side
Hyatt Regency at Ashram road organised the same frolic on a unique day. 14th November 2018, in order to celebrate cake mixing with children. Hence, on Children's Day, they not only have fun but get to learn an essential ingredient of our festivities. The set up with loads of dry fruits was laid at poolside followed by High Tea.
Chef Suresh Khanna
Last but not least, Chef Suresh Khanna at Fortune Landmark on 27th November 2018 organized the same ceremony followed by high tea. Suresh Khanna also shared his tweaky recipe with all the guests present. Apart from the dry fruits, he also mixes 'sweet petha' . After a month, these soaked nuts will be mixed with another lot of nuts which have aged for one year, to give the plum cake right kind of flavour!!
Fortune Landmark
So the wait isnt just for the goodies which Santa will get, but to indulge in this signature preparation, plum Cake!!

Its not just Oil and Gold, a New world economy, booming and buzzing, attracting all global markets to buy home, setup business and live in a place which is now the new Centre of attraction, to setup Global Headquarters. The Millenial tower - Burj Al Arab  Indians have forgotten Canada and US (seems so..) especially after the setting up new Trump norms... so where do all heads turn and why? 1. Distance : Travel time from Delhi to Dubai is 3.5 hours and if we talk about Gujarat, Punjab, Kerala and Maharashtra they are geographically more towards the west, therefore the travel time to The Emirates is even lesser than any other Indian town on the extreme corner. Therefore, Dubai travel is cost effective and easily accessible. 2. Visa : Relaxed norms with consultants from both countries growing in numbers to assist Indians settle in Dubai, both for entrepreneurs and job seekers. 3. Population : Potential of any economy to thrive lies in its people, Population thus holds biggest Poten...

"Wife or a Whore?" Or Dust under her feet!

Lets change the narrative.. the perspective and positioning !! Well, this is one statement which after a certain age applies to women.. pls note the word "AGE"!! This was mentioned in a book reading session by Sharbari Zohra Ahmed, in her Debut Novel,   "Dust under her feet!" The  Quantico  scriptwriter moves from an International thriller, expressing a high voltage drama series for Hollywood and now back into the 1940s, where her story revolves around Yasmine Khan, the protagonist. Sharbari expresses that it was probably Yasmine Khan, the focal point chose her, cause while writing the fiction,  she could clearly go back into times and see the visuals of the yesteryears when World War II had set in.. There is a lot which Sharbari has contributed into this novel, above her body mind and soul.. fifteen years have gone into crafting the epic! What beyond? The Author has actually gone to the libraries of Kolkata, dug out their archival section, newspapers, magazines, hu...

Sands to Skyscrapers: Dubai’s Architectural Marvels

A New Dawn in the Desert By: Kulveen Narula “The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it, and execute it. It isn't something  you await, but rather create.” — H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum A t the turn of the millennium, while the world was celebrating the arrival of Y2K , a quiet revolution had begun brewing in the Middle East. The United Arab Emirates, particularly Dubai , was preparing to reimagine itself—not just as a city but as a symbol of human possibility.
