Triyambakeshwar diaries... & Power point - Kumbha

Nashik

Another solo trip, taken in month of December 2015. I usually say that I have stopped planning things, when you surrender yourself to the universe, it guides you. Now I move with short term goals in my hand… rest floating. Then HE takes the charge and will give you the BEST available. My dream of El-dorado too will come true.

Coming back to plans, just two days prior, on a Sunday, I was with a friend of mine suggesting her a short holiday from Ahmedabad, instinctively or with guidance (as I say) I happened to suggest her Nashik. The very next day I got gushes in my brain of taking the trip myself, it was perfect season, midweek, no rush and I could get to see the grapes hanging in vineyards, just like the danglers of a beautiful woman.

From the economy side too it was right time to visit, a week prior to Christmas and icing on the cake was midweek, so I got a chance to grab a best deal. Quickly on the following day, I checked upon few good hotels, went to purchase a bus ticket and it started happening… 9th December 2015 was my departure and 13th Dec ‘15 was return back to Ahmedabad. One day booked for Triyambakeshwar, second for Vineyards and third to chillax.

Bus journey was a bit tough & a bumpy ride with a gurgling engine and not so soft seats. Volvos are not available on this route, normal AC sleeper buses ply. There is no direct rail connection hence travelling by road is the only option.

Gateway Hotel, Ambad – Nashik was the hotel I selected. Having worked with this group in Gujarat, it was like home coming as you are attached to the brand and when travelling solo, this was the safest bet. After a quick check in and early breakfast, I got ready & hired a car from the travel desk of the hotel itself.

Triyambakeshwar is one of the twelve jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The most unique aspect of this temple is that it is dedicated to three main Gods i.e Brahma Vishnu & Mahesh. The main sanctum is a little beneath the ground level, holding three pindis each representing the deities who run the universe of the Creator, preserver and the destroyer. Above this stands a Parvati statue, giving the goddess a supreme position might.  A mirror is place above, at an angle so that pilgrims who wait in long queues can do Darshan from a distance.

Outside temple offerings like flowers, cocunuts etc are sold, but the most important fact is that nothing is allowed in the sanctum, no gadgets too. Only thing you can thus offer is some money topped with a true heart which even the lords seek for in us.

Triyambakeshwar holds a great significance in Hinduism. It is located on the foothills of Brahmagiri mountains. The entire region is dotted with ashrams and large part of the population here are Pandits.

A little further to the temple is Kumbh, origin of Godavari River. Every 12 years, Kumbh mela, largest congregation on earth, is organized. This year has been significant as Nashik hosted this mega event. I was lucky probably to visit this place, a little later though, like we say it is never too late.

Godavari is also known as dakshin ganga. It is of a great religious significance in Sikhism as well. In North India Hemganga commences its journey from Hemkund, the abode of Guru Gobind Singhji,  thereafter merges with Alaknanda then Ganga. Godavari or Dakshin Ganga from Nashik reaches Nanded where Guru Gobind Singhji actually chose this place and merged with the Universe becoming infinite… Daily the sanctum at Sachkhand Abchalnagar, Nanded is bathed with waters of this holy river, Dakshin Ganga.

Be it Kumbh or Nanded, when we reach such power points on this planet in our physical forms with a true heart, we are actually blessed! Let us all stay blessed!!

Upcycle Concrete

Upcycle is an interesting "GREEN" practice nowadays followed by many!! For goods and commodities its good, but in the era of shifting sands, preferences, fast evolutionary changes, the need and demand for more excitement the malls, unlike old markets, have a very short life span. A decade is quite long, then they slowly organically fade out. Ahmedabad, unlike the metros is quick silver. The life span of malls is shorter than those in metros.. few which have swept off infront of our eyes in two decades are; Gulmohar, Fun Republic, Gallops etc. Gallops though with best brands, infrastructure couldn't survive the cost concious market. Two days ago I happened to step into Iscon mega Mall, Mega like the word suggests, its gigantic. Reliance hyper market was inaugurated on 15th August 2006 by Sh Mukesh Ambani, it was his big bang entry into retail segment. In this mega structure, today hardly 10% area is functional, rest is all unused.  If Westside and Reliance are functional...

Parallel Worlds - Perspectives from Gwalior

India is a land of Gold mine for Archeologists and architects.. any region we travel, there are ballads and narratives found in every corner of the country. After various emperors who travelled and did their territory demarcation.. today the politically divided States as per the Sovereign Social Republic clearly reflect the culture and Unity in Diversity in various aspects, be it culture, space, region, food or architecture. Madhya Pradesh, today being the centre of the country is a classic example where you can find historical structures, monuments and living spaces from across eras. Mughal, Marathas, Rajputs, Sikhs, Britishers etc.  Apart from this, there is a lot of correlation found in the architecture of structures found in other states which have been built in other eras. Twin temples with elephant carvings as base Sas Bahu Temple Gwalior (vishnu temple) Sun Temple Modhera in Gujarat and Sas Bahu (as ...
