Upcycle - the New Cult!
Pollution, cutting trees,
environment conservation etc. are a few hot burning topics been spoken about a lot..
but our habits and the need for surging economy towards growth and development
itself is a hurdle towards conservation. In between, there are sensitive groups
who keep taking small initiatives to add their contribution to our own cause of
saving some resources than money for the generations to come!!!
Upcycle – another cult
setting in is the best solution for conservation wherein you recreate and
transform anything which probably is of no use.
- You save many trees from being cut by not getting new furniture made
- You don’t contribute to air pollution
- Anything manufactured in factories certainly has effluent emission in the water bodies or environment
- The noise of course, as output of manufacturing and construction.
My recent visits to some
eateries in Gurgaon intrigued me to write this piece, high tech environment,
brand-oriented generation, fat pay packets and you spot old suitcases and
utensils transformed in a creative way; not only this oak barrels will make the
seasonal boozers nostalgic. NOWhere at Crosspoint Mall in Gurgaon has not only
smartly used their eatery for freelancers as a coworking space during the day, but every area has a story to
narrate.
Corresponding to this, just
a few days ahead during my visit to Waltere Boutique Bungalow in between Mussoorie
and Dehradoon I could spot spaces filled with Kerala Massage table altered to a
normal use table.. etc. though I have heard stories of refurbishing furniture
and seen Alang Ship broken furniture used a lot, in Ahmedabad. The use at high
end place is a satisfying surprise to the eyes.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, a
mission of Honourable Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi and Amitabh Bacchan as
the brand ambassador, on one side, speaks about reducing pollution, Upcycle probably is
one prime answer to it!
In Delhi NCR there are Upcycle FB
groups having around 50k members. However, we know very well of
OLX as one of such platforms which is more about reselling and reuse. Besides
this, there are several real-time stores, which come under a proper listing, where you
can get to see the creativity. Recycle Rickshaw, Cornucopia are to name a few.
We have seen our ancestors
following upcycle habits in clothes especially, but with modernisation, the use
and throw era, consumer-driven economy, somewhere we forgot this art which is reviving now, a way of being more sensitive and reducing our pile on the landfills.
So next time you spot a
useless bit, just google up and probably YouTube will give you end number of
creative solutions, if not just remember Rock Garden of Chandigarh, the oldest
and finest example of Upcycle which is now a historical landmark in itself.
