Story of a Mom’s Kitchen... If you love home style food, don’t give this a miss!!

Growing economy, urbanisation and migration with modernisation has also transformed the food patterns of the city, migrated population seeks hygienic home style food as either they don’t have time or infrastructure to cook food which is required both to satisfy their hunger and satiate desire of food which tastes like one straight out of their mom’s kitchen.

Kalpana Purohit

One such place in town, the foundation stone of this food outlet was done by a mother only. Mrs. Purohit commenced her venture with a very humble beginning.. daughter of a famous restaurant chain of Mumbai, she always had the expertise running in her genes hence it was easy to venture in...so it was in 1996  when she started her brand serving.... from home itself. She ventured into this field with an intention of serving 'home style' food to youngsters who are staying away from home, because she as a mother could relate it with the need of her own children who were out of country to pursue their studies... hence it was more of a passion driven initiative with an added ingredient of 'Mothers love' which still is the distinct flavour or the ingredient of their food!!!

Rushabh Purohit, son of Mrs. Kalpana D Purohit along with his wife, carries forward the league with yet more passion and simplicity. Purohit Thali – the restaurant is located near Drive-in Cinema – Ahmedabad. Simplicity as mentioned earlier is the mantra, be it the food or interiors. Less commercialised format actually enables the food to be like home style. Moreover they also lay lot of stress on not wasting food – a social responsibility, in era where food availability and wastage in urban towns is on a rise..

Coming to main aspect – food; which is authentic, hygienic, great variety, traditional cuisines are served. Be it Gujarati, Marathi, Rajasthani or Kahiawadi.. Baigan Bhartha with Bajra Roti, Thalipeeth Pitla with traditional Brinjal, Gujarati thali, Khichdi kadi are to name a few available in the menu. Rushabh mentioned that they have regular clientele and the food is so much appreciated that they also supply packed lunches at banks and hospitals too.

Last but not the least, when I stepped into their kitchen I spotted a bunch of old women adding their age old expertise and emotions in the food.. no wonder it tastes best, unlike the commercial outlets where men are chefs..

Women empowerment or extension of the passionate league......

Sands to Skyscrapers: Dubai’s Architectural Marvels

A New Dawn in the Desert By: Kulveen Narula “The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it, and execute it. It isn't something  you await, but rather create.” — H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum A t the turn of the millennium, while the world was celebrating the arrival of Y2K , a quiet revolution had begun brewing in the Middle East. The United Arab Emirates, particularly Dubai , was preparing to reimagine itself—not just as a city but as a symbol of human possibility. From a land once known only for its sands and souks, rose a futuristic skyline that rivals the best on Earth. In just 25 years , Dubai evolved into a global epicentre of design, engineering, and luxury—where the homo sapiens are actually living on Cloud 9, giving us a strong dream etched on sand, which didn't disappear overnight but amplified year on year imparting a twinkle in the eye of millions in the world to light up a dream.  The Visionary Behind the Rise The transformation is no...

What's your Color Code?

Give Me "RED" - Operation Sindoor   While a debate goes on the skin color and the side effects of lightening crèmes, no makeup looks etc. but at the same point there is no denial that we love to wear color, be it on our face, hair or body. 16   shringars   have been known since time  immemorial and so make up has always been an essential part of human existence, be it the tribal paintings with feather head gears or a high fashion look on a ramp. Recently the importance of vermilion powder - termed as "Sindoor" was the nomenclature of the army operation conducted in retaliation to the terrorist attacks in Kashmir where caste was primary specification of those targeted.  This itself indicates that makeup and grooming have been an essential element of our culture and tradition since time immemorial. The loud red streak was adorned by Aishwarya Rai at the Cannes as representation of both fashion and fury, Peace and power. The Queen arrived clad in Red ...
